As the crankshaft flexes and twists in your Duramax, the balancer absorbs incredible amounts of kinetic energy. The damper or “balancer” has counter weights and vibration dampening properties to soak up harmonics which help prevent your crankshaft from prematurely cracking.
This Harmonic Damper bolt by ARP features a low profile 12-Point head, 200,000 psi tensile strength rating and includes a 1/2 oz. pack of ARP Ultra-Torque fastener assembly lubricant. This excellent product is manufactured from premium grade chrome moly steel with a Black Oxide finish.
To ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings, clean the threads in the end of the crankshaft. Chase if necessary with a Thread Chaser or Tap. Lubricate the threads of the bolt, the under-head of the bolt and the front face of the balancer (where the washer contacts the balancer) with the provided ARP Ultra-Torque Lubricant. Once lubricant is sufficiently applied, slide the washer onto the bolt and install.
