Merchant Automotive Allison Deep Filter Lock | 2001-2019

The Merchant Automotive Deep Filter Lock holds the internal filter securely in place on Allison 1000 transmissions with the Allison brand deep pan. It fits 2001-2019 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD trucks with the 6.6L Duramax diesel (LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML and L5P). By keeping the filter seated, it helps reduce cavitation caused by a poor seal at the filter and prevents accidental filter fallout.

The filter lock is redesigned to fit both the old (29537966) and new (29542824) style Allison deep pan filters. It is engineered and built in house by Merchant Automotive in Holland, Michigan, as part of our focus on the Duramax and Allison platforms.

Before You Order

• Allison deep pans only. A filter lock is not needed on most cast pans, such as PPE, Mag-Hytec, ATS and Goerend, and it may interfere with cast pan installation.
• Not sure which pan you have? An Allison deep pan measures about 4-1/2 in. overall height at the rear of the pan. See the FAQ below.

Installation Tips

• Install the filter lock after the deep pan filter is fully seated.
• Use the included spacer only if your transmission does not have the G solenoid.
• Install a new pan gasket when the pan is removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell if my Allison 1000 has a deep pan or a shallow pan?
The quick answer is to look at the profile of your transmission pan. A deep pan is about 4.5 in. deep consistently from the front to the rear of the pan. A shallow pan is just under 4 in. deep at the front and slopes down to about 2.5 in. deep at the rear (the end with the drain plug). If your pan has a slope to it, it is a shallow pan. This can be harder to tell on the truck, especially if you are not the original owner or the transmission has been repaired, replaced or upgraded. How much transmission fluid will I need with a deep pan?
An Allison 1000 with a deep pan takes approximately 10 quarts for a spin on filter and fluid change, or approximately 12 quarts when you also change the internal filter. A shallow pan takes approximately 8 quarts and 10 quarts for the same services.

Do I need a filter lock with a cast aftermarket pan?
Usually not. Most cast pans, such as PPE, Mag-Hytec, ATS and Goerend, do not need a filter lock, and it may interfere with cast pan installation.

Will it fit my filter?
It is designed to fit both the old style 29537966 and new style 29542824 Allison deep pan filters.

What is the spacer for?
The included spacer is for Allison transmissions that do not have the G solenoid.

Do I need this for a shallow pan?
