Transfer Case Rear Output Seal, 246 261HD 263HD | 1999-2007

This is the rear output seal for the NP246, 261HD and 263HD transfer cases used in 1999-2007 GM gas trucks and SUVs. It is item A13 in the exploded view. The rear output seal rides on the rear output shaft where the rear driveshaft yoke slides in. When it wears or hardens, transfer case fluid leaks out the back of the case and onto the driveshaft. Running the case low on fluid is a common cause of transfer case pump and bearing failure. It is not for the 261XHD or 263XHD used behind the Allison on Duramax trucks.

A leaking rear output seal slowly drains the transfer case, and these cases rely on the fluid level to keep the pump and chain lubricated. Replacing the seal at the first sign of seepage, or any time the rear driveshaft or output shaft is serviced, keeps the case full. Replace if worn or damaged. Will this fit my Duramax?
No. Duramax trucks with the Allison use the 261XHD or 263XHD transfer case, which takes a different rear output seal. Use the Transfer Case Rear Output Seal, Duramax - 261XHD, 263XHD | 2001 - 2007.

How do I know which transfer case I have?
Check the ID tag on the rear half of the case. It will read 246, 261HD, 263HD, 261XHD or 263XHD.

Is there a kit with all the seals?
