The Merchant Automotive transmission Rear Housing Support can help prevent the 4WD Allison transmission housing from cracking in the event of excessive driveline vibration. These vibrations can be caused by something as simple as a failing U-joint or as complex as a driveshaft imbalance from a dent or even a bend. Also remember that the transfer case itself is heavy and is only supported by being bolted to the back of the transmission, installing the Rear Support Brace provides additional support for trucks that are used off road and in harsh conditions where the weight of the transfer case alone can cause cracking and damage to the transmission case.

Features & Benefits:

  • Peace of Mind: Installing the Merchant Automotive Rear Housing Support can keep the Allison transmission housing from cracking, potentially saving $1,000 or more to replace a transmission housing that is cracked or damaged from driveline vibration.
  • Built to Last: Our Rear Housing Supports are fabricated in-house and precision welded using state-of-the-art robotic welding equipment at the Zeeland, Michigan Merchant Automotive facility. The support uses high-quality 3/16-inch plate steel that is precision laser cut to ensure exact fit on the transmission and transfer case within each truck. The plates are linked together with 7/8-inch 0.120-inch wall thickness DOM mild steel tubing for MAximum support backed by the Merchant Automotive Limited Lifetime Warranty.
  • Easy to Install: The Rear Housing Support can easily be installed in your garage or driveway using basic hand tools and the factory bolts.

While you are improving the driveline stability with the Rear Support Brace consider installing the Merchant Automotive High Performance Motor Mounts and Polyurethane Transmission mount to really lock down the complete drivetrain solidly in the truck's chassis.

Great Part

Tim - | 02/26/2019 12:01:00 pm

This brace was easily installed after I put the transfer case back into my truck after I repaired the pump rub problem. It appears it will do as indicated.

Nice beefy brace

I installed while I had my t-case out for a pump upgrade which turned into a complete tear down/inspection/rebuild. The brace install was easy. Fitment was great. Thanks.

Fit good. Good quality. Happy I bought it.

Good insurance!!

Aaron - | 05/02/2018 12:01:00 pm

Having put in a fair amount of money to rebuild the transmission and transfer case it only made sense to add this for a bit of insurance and piece of mind. If you two, haul or play this is good thing to have!!

So I discovered my extension housing had a crack in it on my truck. I posted this in a group on FB and MA chimed in and directed me to the parts I’d need. Keep in mind, my truck is sitting on a rack at my mechanics shop. I ordered the parts around 2:00 and they were on my porch by 9:30 the next morning.

Solved the problem

Keith - | 08/01/2017 12:01:00 pm

I have the 8.1 L and was having problems with a slight shimmy when the trans was under stress. This solved the problem. However, I will say that this site indicates the installation is easier than it actually is. This bracket mounts on the top of the transmission and some of the bolts are difficult to see in a driveway install. Once I figured that out it took about an hour to install.

Definitely add this if you have an issue with your Adaptor housing. Even if you aren’t and you’ve got the factory Adaptor housing............INSTALL it NOW before it does become an issue and costs you big
