ACDelco 62G Glow Plug, Duramax | 2001 - 2004

Hard start? The ACDelco 62G is the OEM replacement glow plug for 2001-2004 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD trucks with the 6.6L Duramax LB7. It fits both federal and California emission systems and replaces GM 97226202. These are OEM glow plugs, which we feel are the most reliable and not prone to issues that some aftermarket glow plugs may have, such as tip swelling.

When to Replace

Glow plugs are one of the most important components when trying to start a diesel in cold weather. Worn or inoperative glow plugs can cause a hard start or even set check engine lights. Glow plug faults for individual cylinders set codes P0671 through P0678 (cylinders 1 through 8).

Before You Order

• 2001-2004 LB7 only. 2004.5-2005 LLY trucks use the ACDelco 63G.
• Inspect the glow plug rail. On federal emissions LB7 engines, the glow plugs are tied together with a rail (bus bar). It is common for the rail to fail between cylinders 6 and 8 on the driver side rear of the engine. Replace it if you see corrosion: Glow Plug Rail, 2001-2004.

Installation Tips

• Use the right removal tools to reduce the chance of breaking off a glow plug. See the Glow Plug Removal Tool Adapter and Socket or the complete Glow Plug Removal Tool Kit.
• Clean carbon from each bore with the Duramax Glow Plug Reamer Tool before installing the new plug.
• Owners on the DuramaxDiesels forum report that soaking stubborn LB7 plugs with penetrant and removing them with the engine warm helped, and recommend backing them out slowly instead of forcing them.
