New 261HD Transfer Case, Gas, Manual Shift | 2001-2007

The Merchant Automotive New 261HD Transfer Case is a brand new replacement for the NP261HD manual shift (floor lever) 4WD transfer case in 2001-2007 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500 gas trucks. It is a 32 spline input unit and will not work in 261LD 27 or 30 spline applications. It comes with our transfer case pump upgrade, magnetic drain plugs and 2 quarts of our performance transfer case fluid. No core charge.

About the Pump Upgrade

GM transfer cases use a gear pump inside the case that is driven off the mainshaft. The pump sends oil to the planetary and the drive sprocket sleeve. Five tabs around the pump housing fit into the rear housing to position the pump. Over time, the pump can wear into the rear housing, a problem known as pump rub. Our transfer case pump upgrade is designed to prevent this.

Before You Order

• Gas trucks only: this transfer case is for gas trucks. It does not fit Duramax diesel trucks.
• Manual shift only: trucks with a floor mounted shift lever use the NP261HD. Trucks with push button or dash knob 4WD use the NP263HD; see the Gas 263HD Transfer Case.
• 32 spline only: this case will not work in 261LD 27 or 30 spline applications.
• Not for 8.1L gas or Duramax trucks: those trucks use the 261XHD. For Duramax trucks, see the New 261XHD Transfer Case.
• Encoder motor not included.
• Ships empty: the transfer case is not filled when you receive it. It takes 64 fluid oz, which is the 2 quarts included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my transfer case an NP261HD or NP263HD?
The easiest way to tell is the 4WD shift control. Trucks with a floor mounted shift lever use the NP261HD. Trucks with electronic shift (a push button or knob on the dash) use the NP263HD.

Will this fit my Duramax?
No. This transfer case is for gas trucks only.

Does it come filled with fluid?
No. It ships empty with a 2 quart bottle of our performance transfer case fluid, which is the amount one transfer case uses.

Is there a core charge?
No.
