L5P Duramax Crankshaft & Oil Pump Gear Pin Kit

Secure the harmonic balancer and oil pump gear to the crankshaft with the L5P Duramax Crankshaft & Oil Pump Gear Pin Kit. Unlike crankshaft assemblies that use an alignment pin or keyway, the factory L5P design relies on crankshaft balancer bolt torque to hold the harmonic balancer and oil pump gear in position. Frequent high-RPM operation or improper balancer bolt torque following removal can allow these components to slip or rotate on the crankshaft snout, potentially causing engine damage.

This kit provides a solution for securing the harmonic balancer and oil pump gear without removing the crankshaft or machining a traditional keyway. The repair can be completed with the engine remaining in the vehicle, requiring only the removal of the radiator and intercooler for access. Using the supplied drill jig, a new 2" deep pin hole is drilled to accommodate the hardened roll pin, mechanically securing the components to the crankshaft.

After removing any damaged alignment pin, the harmonic balancer is reinstalled in its designated position, 180 degrees from the factory pin location. The hardened roll pin is then installed, and the assembly is secured using the OEM crankshaft bolt and washer tightened to factory torque specifications.

Installation Notes
