This genuine GM engine block heater element (GM 12724955) fits the 6.6L L5P Duramax in 2017-2019 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD trucks. The block heater warms the engine coolant when the truck is plugged in, which helps the diesel start and warm up in cold weather.

Before You Order
- This element fits 2017-2019 L5P trucks only. 2020 and newer L5P trucks use a different block heater, and 2001-2016 Duramax trucks use the Block Heater Element, Duramax | 2001 - 2016.
- If the engine doesn't warm up when plugged in, check the cord and outlet first. A damaged cord can look like a failed element.
Installation Tips
- In most cases, some coolant has to be drained before the element is removed, so plan to top off or refill the cooling system afterward.
- Don't plug in the block heater until the element is installed and the cooling system is full. Running it dry can damage it.
