Rear Transfer Case Housing with Output Seal, 261XHD/263XHD | 2001-2007

The Merchant Automotive A11 Rear Transfer Case Housing is a direct replacement rear half for the NP261XHD and NP263XHD transfer case in 2001-2007 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD trucks with the 6.6L Duramax diesel (LB7, LLY and LBZ) and the 8.1L gas engine. GM 12478092 is the factory rear half number for these 2001-2007 6.6L and 8.1L XHD trucks. It is cast in magnesium alloy to OEM specs and is used to repair cases damaged by pump rub, or to replace the rear housing when installing a pump upgrade. It comes with the driven sprocket support bearing and slip yoke bushing already installed, plus a new rear output seal. No core charge.

Repairing or Preventing Pump Rub

If you are replacing the rear case to repair or prevent a pump rub failure, we recommend our Merchant Automotive Transfer Case Pump Upgrade Kit. The kit is made for 1998-early 2007 GM transfer cases that are susceptible to pump rub, and it is a good time to install it while the case is apart.

With the installation of the MA Transfer Case Pump Upgrade Kit, you will have a LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY against pump rub. The MA Lifetime Warranty only applies to installations with a new rear housing.

Before You Order

• XHD only: this housing fits the NP261XHD (manual shift) and NP263XHD (electronic shift) used in 2001-2007 Duramax and 8.1L gas trucks.
• Gas trucks: fits the 8.1L only. 6.0L gas trucks use the 261HD/263HD; see the 246/261HD/263HD Rear Case Half.
• Fluid not included: you will need 2 quarts to refill the transfer case. We recommend the Merchant Automotive Performance Transfer Case Fluid.
• Complete the refresh: we recommend adding the Merchant Automotive Magnetic Drain Plug Kit.

Installation Tips

• Replacing the rear housing requires disassembling the transfer case. Lock ring pliers are needed for disassembly.
• The rear bearing snap ring and the drain and fill plugs are not included. Transfer them from your old housing, or install the Merchant Automotive Magnetic Drain Plug Kit.
