This Grade C multi-layer steel (MLS) cylinder head gasket fits the left (driver) side of 2001-2016 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD and 3500 trucks with the 6.6L Duramax diesel (LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM and LML) and 2006-2016 Chevy Express and GMC Savana vans with the 6.6L Duramax (LLY, LMM and LGH). It replaces GM 12637785, which superseded 98045060. GM offers the Duramax head gasket in three thicknesses, Grade A, B and C, chosen by piston protrusion. Grade C is the thickest at 1.05 mm compressed, and it's the common choice for rebuilds and for heads or blocks that have been resurfaced.

Features

  • Replaces GM 12637785 (formerly 98045060)
  • Grade C (1.05 mm) multi-layer steel head gasket
  • Left (driver) side; order the right side separately
  • Safe for up to .008" of combined head and block machining
  • Suitable for cylinder overbores up to .040"

What's Included

  • (1) Grade C cylinder head gasket, left (driver) side

When to Replace

Replace the head gasket any time the cylinder head is removed, after a head gasket failure, or during an engine rebuild. Head gaskets should not be reused.

Before You Order

  • Left side only: the left and right gaskets are not interchangeable. For the passenger side, order the Grade C Right Head Gasket.
  • Machining limits: if total machining exceeds .008" or the cylinders are bored more than .040" over, measure piston protrusion and piston-to-head clearance before final assembly.
  • Not for L5P: this gasket fits 2001-2016 engines.

Installation Tips

  • Install the gasket with the markings facing up. Engine Builder magazine notes that improper placement can block coolant and oil passages.
  • The grade is identified by the hole position in the large slot on the gasket. On a Grade C gasket, the hole is nearest the bottom of the slot.
  • Always use new head bolts or quality head studs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a left and a right gasket?
Yes, if you are doing both heads. The left and right gaskets are different parts.

Which grade do I need?
The grade is chosen by measuring piston protrusion. Grade C is the thickest and is the common choice for rebuilds and resurfaced heads or blocks.

Can I reuse my head bolts?
No. Use new OEM head bolts or an ARP head stud kit.
