This fitting is used to connect the transfer case oil pickup screen to the oil pump pickup tube. It can become brittle and break if the transfer case is run without oil for an extended period of time causing overheating and parts failure. Inspect the fitting any time the transfer case is opened and replace with a new fitting as needed to make sure the pump receives a steady stream of transfer case oil for lubrication and a long life.
