The Merchant Automotive Fluid Analysis Kit is a safe, simple and affordable way to find out what's really happening inside your engine, transmission, transfer case, differential, gearbox or hydraulic system. Lubricating fluids are the lifeblood of any machine, and a lab analysis shows how well yours are protecting the parts they lubricate. Merchant Automotive has teamed with Apex Oil Lab to offer the same scientific fluid testing large fleet operators rely on, at a price that makes sense for individual owners. Draw a sample, mail it in with the prepaid envelope, and get easy-to-read results by email.
This kit is not intended for brake fluid, power steering fluid or aviation fluids.

Why Test Your Fluids?
Changing fluids at generic service intervals works for most applications, but it can mean throwing away expensive oil that still has life left in it. Waiting too long is worse: once a fluid breaks down, it stops protecting the moving parts, and the repair bills add up fast. The old 3,000-mile oil change is a good example. It made sense decades ago with simpler engines and lower-quality oils, but modern oils, especially synthetics, can often go well past 10,000 miles, and transmission and gear oils even longer. Fluid analysis takes the guesswork out. It shows problems while they're small and inexpensive to fix, and it helps you find the right service interval for your vehicle and the way you drive, so you get the MAximum life out of your fluids and your vehicle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sample my oil or other fluid without draining it?
Yes. The Merchant Automotive Oil Siphon Pump draws a small sample through the dipstick tube or fill plug opening. Based on the results, Apex Oil Lab will recommend whether to change the fluid or keep running it.
Will USPS mail my sample since it contains oil?
In our experience, yes. Make sure the sample bottle and shipping container are both securely closed, and put the completed form inside the shipping container with the bottle.
How do I get my results?
Results are emailed to the address you write on the enclosed analysis form.
How long does the analysis take?
Oil results are usually ready within one business day after the lab receives your sample, and often the same day if it arrives by 11:00 a.m. Eastern. Mail delivery time to the lab varies.
Can I test my engine oil and transmission fluid with the same kit?
No. Each sample needs its own kit, because mixing fluids makes the results unusable for both. Order one kit for each fluid you want tested, or a few extra for later.
