Warranty does not mean unconditional replacement. Transmission failures can occur for many reasons. This Limited Warranty covers qualifying defects in materials and workmanship. It does not cover damage or failure caused by circumstances outside the warranty, including improper installation, contamination, another failed vehicle component, improper tuning, abuse, lack of maintenance, failure to follow installation requirements, or operation outside the intended use of the transmission.

Damage or failure arising from drag racing, sand drag racing, sled pulling, or other motorsports or competition use is not covered.

Warranty Requirements

Proper installation is critical to the performance and life of a MAximum Transmission. The installation instructions provided with the transmission are part of the warranty requirements. Failure to follow a required installation, setup, or maintenance procedure may result in denial of coverage when that failure caused or contributed to the transmission problem.

Transmission Cooler Must Be Properly Flushed

The transmission cooler and cooler lines must be properly flushed before installing a MAximum Transmission. Contamination and clutch material can remain in the cooling system from the previous transmission and can damage the replacement transmission, torque converter, valve body, solenoids, or other components.

The transmission cooling system must be flushed using an appropriate hot-flush transmission machine. Brake cleaner and shop air or typical aerosol cooler-flush cans are not acceptable substitutes. Failure to properly clean the cooling system may result in stuck valves, solenoid or pressure-switch concerns, transmission damage, torque-converter damage, and denial of coverage when contamination caused or contributed to the failure.

Torque Converter Bolts

The torque converter bolts supplied with the MAximum Transmission must be used. Original factory converter bolts must not be reused when the supplied hardware is required. Apply the specified thread locker and install the bolts according to the supplied instructions. Damage caused by incorrect converter bolts or failure to follow the supplied installation requirements is not covered.

Transmission Fluid

The MAximum Transmission is shipped dry. The installer is responsible for properly filling the transmission before operation and verifying the fluid level according to the supplied installation instructions.

The torque converter should not be removed to fill it before installation. The converter will fill itself, and removing it creates a risk of incorrect reinstallation and resulting damage. Verify the final fluid level with the transmission at approximately 150 degrees F, with the fluid level at the bottom of the HOT range on the indicator stick. Damage caused by insufficient, incorrect, or contaminated fluid is not covered.

Vehicle Modifications and Tuning

Merchant Automotive understands that many MAximum Transmissions are installed in modified trucks. Vehicle modification by itself does not automatically void this warranty.

Tuning, horsepower, torque, tire size, vehicle weight, towing conditions, competition use, and other modifications or operating conditions may be considered when determining the cause of a failure. Damage caused by operating beyond the capabilities of the specific transmission build, or by tuning or operating conditions that caused or contributed to the failure, is not covered.

Customers who substantially change a vehicle's power level, intended use, or configuration should contact Merchant Automotive if uncertain whether the transmission remains appropriate for the application.

If You Experience a Transmission Problem

Contact Merchant Automotive before disassembling, repairing, replacing, or continuing to operate a transmission experiencing a significant problem and, whenever practical, before removing it from the vehicle. Prompt contact helps preserve evidence and may prevent further damage.

Merchant Automotive, LLC

Merchant Automotive may request information reasonably necessary to evaluate the concern, including:

  • Original invoice or sales order.
  • Vehicle year, make, model, current mileage, and installation mileage.
  • Description of the concern and diagnostic trouble codes.
  • Transmission fluid level, condition, and temperature.
  • Vehicle tuning, estimated power level, tire size, and modifications.
  • Towing or operating conditions when the concern occurred.
  • Installation and cooler-flushing information.
  • Photos, videos, scan data, maintenance records, or other relevant diagnostic information.

Merchant Automotive will review the available information and provide the next-step instructions.

Warranty Inspection

A suspected transmission failure does not automatically mean the transmission must be replaced. Whenever practical, Merchant Automotive will first work with the customer or installer to diagnose the concern. Some concerns may involve tuning, adaptive values, wiring, sensors, the transfer case, fluid level, valve-body operation, another vehicle component, or another condition that can be corrected without replacing the transmission.

If the transmission must be returned, the customer must obtain an RMA (Return Material Authorization) from Merchant Automotive before shipment and follow the provided return instructions. Issuing an RMA authorizes evaluation; it does not approve the warranty claim.

Merchant Automotive will inspect the transmission and determine, to the best of its ability, what failed, why it failed, and whether the cause is covered. Coverage may be denied when disassembly, alteration, repair, disposal, loss of evidence, or failure to preserve the transmission caused the failure or materially prevents a reliable failure analysis.

Approved Warranty Claims

If Merchant Automotive determines that the transmission experienced a qualifying defect in materials or workmanship during the warranty period, MA will, at its option:

  • Repair the transmission;
  • Replace the transmission or affected components with new, rebuilt, remanufactured, or functionally equivalent components; or
  • If repair or replacement is not reasonably available, provide a refund or store credit not exceeding the original purchase price of the covered transmission.

A transmission or component repaired or supplied as warranty service is covered for the remainder of the original twenty-four-month warranty period. Warranty service does not restart or extend the original warranty term unless Merchant Automotive agrees otherwise in writing.

If an Immediate Replacement Is Needed

We understand that some customers cannot leave a truck down while a transmission is returned and inspected. When an immediate replacement is required before MA completes its determination, the customer may purchase a replacement transmission when available.

At the time of purchase, the customer is responsible for the replacement transmission, applicable core charge, and shipping. Purchasing a replacement before inspection does not constitute approval of the original claim.

After the original transmission is returned and inspected:

  • If the original transmission experienced a qualifying covered failure, MA will provide the applicable credit or refund, not exceeding the amount paid for the covered transmission. If the replacement purchase is converted into warranty service, its warranty coverage continues only for the remainder of the original warranty term.
  • If the failure is not covered and the replacement remains a separate paid purchase, the replacement receives its own applicable written warranty beginning on its purchase date.

Labor, Shipping, and Related Expenses

This transmission warranty does not include labor or shipping. Unless Merchant Automotive approves another arrangement in writing, the customer is responsible for the cost of packaging and shipping the transmission to MA and for shipping the repaired or replacement transmission to the customer.

To the extent permitted by law, this Limited Warranty does not cover:

  • Diagnostic labor or transmission removal and installation labor.
  • Original shipping, return shipping, or expedited freight.
  • Towing, vehicle rental, vehicle downtime, or loss of use.
  • Lost wages, income, business, or profits.
  • Fluids, filters, shop supplies, or damage to other components.
  • Other incidental or consequential losses or expenses.

Approval of the transmission itself for warranty coverage does not mean these additional expenses are covered.

What Is Not Covered

This Limited Warranty does not cover damage or failure to the extent caused by:

  • Failure to properly flush the transmission cooler and cooler lines.
  • Contamination from the previous transmission or another component.
  • Improper installation or missing or improperly installed bellhousing dowel pins.
  • Incorrect torque converter bolts or failure to follow supplied hardware instructions.
  • Improper fluid type or fluid level.
  • Failure to reset transmission adaptive pressures when required.
  • Another vehicle or driveline component.
  • Improper tuning or calibration.
  • Operation beyond the capabilities of the specific transmission build.
  • Lack of required maintenance or continued operation after a known problem developed.
  • Disassembly, modification, or third-party repair that caused or contributed to the failure or materially prevented an accurate failure analysis.
  • Accident, collision, abuse, misuse, or negligence.
  • Drag racing, sand drag racing, sled pulling, motorsports, or other competition use.
  • Another condition unrelated to a defect in materials or workmanship that caused or contributed to the failure.

A condition on this list does not automatically result in denial merely because it exists. The relevant question is whether the condition caused or contributed to the claimed failure or materially prevented its evaluation, except that damage or failure arising from competition use is expressly excluded.

Merchant Automotive-Installed Transmissions

When Merchant Automotive sells and installs a MAximum Transmission, MA owns the customer experience from beginning to end. If a problem occurs, bring the truck to us. We will diagnose whether the concern involves the transmission, MA's installation, another vehicle component, tuning, operating conditions, or another cause.

If MA's workmanship caused the problem, MA will address it under the applicable repair order and service-warranty terms. If the transmission experienced a qualifying covered failure, MA will address the transmission warranty. You do not need to determine which one it is before calling us. That is our job.

Our Commitment

We build MAximum Transmissions to be used. We recognize that these transmissions often operate in modified trucks, towing applications, work trucks, and demanding environments. When something goes wrong, knowing only that a transmission failed does not explain why it failed. That is why our warranty process is based on understanding the facts.

We will not automatically deny a claim because a truck is modified. We will not automatically approve a claim simply because the transmission failed within the warranty period. We will determine what happened and why.

If the failure is ours, we will stand behind it. If another condition caused the failure, we will explain what we found and help the customer understand the options for getting the truck back on the road.

You bought it from MA. Start with MA.We will take it from there. That is Customer Care.
